MaineCoon.us has moved to a new server and the latest version of Movable Type. Hopefully the site will be much faster for image gallery access and more stable overall. Thanks for visiting!
We're a little late with updates this month. Moose is growing into his name and gets more of an attitude with every pound he gains. Molly still rules the house with an iron paw and has no problem keeping Moose in line (for now).
New pictures are available here.

Moose and Molly both like the top of the tall cat tree and have no problem sharing. That won't work for much longer since they're both growing fast.
The trip to pick Moose up went well and he slept during most of the drive back to Phoenix. After a short time in the bedroom alone he got to meet Molly. There was some hissing (by Molly) but in about an hour they were chasing each other around and playing together. Molly has been trying to groom Moose but he's having none of that and protests loudly when she pins him down. He's a very active little boy and he's keeping Molly very occupied. He's just over three months old and Molly is just over seven months old. Check out the size difference between the two of them in the latest gallery pictures.

Lisa and I are leaving in about an hour to go pick up the little guy in this picture. We're hoping that since he's a Maine Coon he'll get along with Molly (hey, they speak the same "language" at least) and he'll be active enough to keep her occupied. We're calling him Moose right now, but we may pick something else depending on his personality. Watch for more pictures of him very soon!
After a long stay at a specialist animal hospital Melt didn't get any better and the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. All of the tests came back negative and the kidney that was "missing" during several examinations reappeared on a second ultrasound and looked mostly normal but a little enlarged. There were no signs of lymphoma found during a kidney and spleen biopsy so the doctors began checking other possible causes. He just kept getting weaker and refused to eat on his own (he was being fed through a tube). We finally decided not to put him through anything else and had him put to sleep yesterday. It's almost like he missed his littermate brother Max (who we lost six months ago) enough to just want to die, but he stayed with us long enough to train Molly to take care of Lisa.
Melt started vomiting and stopped eating and after a few visits with our normal vet we took him to a specialist. One of his kidneys was impossible to find and the other was larger than normal. We began to think that it was like what Max had all over again (renal lymphoma) at an earlier stage. The doctor will be doing a biopsy of Melt's spleen and kidney to check for lymphoma later today. Since he and Max were siblings from the same litter it's probably something genetic. We're very upset over the possibility of losing Melt but at this point it looks like we will.
It has been a long time (three months!) since I've had a chance to post more pictures but now there are some new ones up in the gallery. Click here to go directly to the latest set of images. Molly is still growing fast and even though Melt would never admit it he does like having her around.
We just haven't had time to update the site lately. Molly is growing fast and she has managed to completely take over the house. Melt tolerates her when she's in one of her "spastic kitten" moods and after she calms down they sometimes curl up together for a nap. More pictures are coming soon!
